On September 2, 2020, “Your Wish · Our Way Season 5– BAIC Test Drive of New Cars 2020” was officially initiated in Guizhou. BAIC took six new models under four brands, i.e. ARCFOX, BEIJING Auto, Beijing Off-road and Beijing Hyundai, to Guizhou, and invited over 70 mainstream media at home to jointly witness the brand-new challenging trip.

Brand Event Helps the Auto Market to Recover

As a distinctive brand experience campaign of BAIC Group, “Your Wish · Our Way” has been successfully held for four seasons, and become an event in which the brand engages with media and consumers. Although the COVID-19 epidemic dealt a heavy blow to the auto industry in H1’20, BAIC launched the campaign as scheduled, taking the lead in the industry and offering test drive of new cars on a large scale, which is expected to add momentum to the recovery of the auto market.

This is a centralized test for BAIC’s new products in 2020. The Group’s output has exceeded 30 million sets on a cumulative basis by far. Brand-new Design Leads Tech Fashion

Eastern Guizhou is famous for magic and picturesque landscape. The test drive route links Guiyang, Dan Zhai and Libo, which are collectively reputed as the “green gem” zone. Under the beautiful background, the cars for test drive will take a new look. Since the implementation of the brand upgrade move, all the brands under BAIC have strengthened product design capability, resulting in notable improvements in both interior and appearance.

Designed with the “boundless aesthetics” philosophy, ARCFOX αT shows a strong personality, with sharp body lines that are concise and full of strength; guided by the style of “generosity and beauty”, BEIJING-X7 embodies the excellent part of the national culture, with the new logo of “BEIJING” appearing generous and fashionable; based on the “Sensuous Sportiness” design, the 10th-generation Beijing Hyundai has a shorter front overhang and a longer wheel base for a lower center of gravity, looking longer, trendier and more dynamic as a whole.

The interior space is also delicately designed. The automatic air-conditioners for BEIJING-EU7 are equipped with CN95 filter elements, which can purify PM2.5 in air, monitor interior air quality on a real-time basis, filter out all sorts of pollen and fine dust (with the filtering efficiency of particles with the diameter above 0.3um as 95%), and thus was awarded CN95 highest-level healthy cabin certificate by CATARC; Beijing Off-road’s 2020 version of BJ40 boasts a combined and open body design that supports fast assembly and dismantling, with the urban skylight pattern, cool convertible pattern and extreme off-road pattern combined with the roll cage to pay tribute to the classical model in a clean and concise image. 

A Challenging Trip in Complex Road Conditions

The proverb that “there are no 3-mile flat roads” describes the geography in Guizhou. The plateau and karst landform raises the bar for vehicle handling performance. The test drive route is 226 km long, which involves complex road conditions that include expressways and roads at national and provincial levels as well as challenging sections on bench gravels and shallow water with gravels.

Beijing Off-road took the lead in this respect. The 2020 version of BJ40, escorted by three locks and equipped with electronically controlled part-time 4WD, enables the change of drive modes as you want; powered by 2.0T+ZF8AT, it features a maximum power of 165kW and a maximum torque of 380N·m, combining high kinetic energy with fuel economy. The 2465mm wheelbase enables a smaller radius of turning circle, with the 220mm ground clearance, 37° approach angle, 31° departure angle and 24° ramp angle creating super passing ability.

Equipped with the 2.0T turbocharged engine, the BJ40 City Hunter Edition of 2020 boasts a maximum power of 165kW and a maximum peak torque of 380N·m, with the drive system provided with the 8-speed automated manual gearbox. The front suspension is double wishbone/spiral spring independent suspension, and the rear suspension is five-bar/spiral spring dependent suspension. The traction control system (TCS), electronic stability program (ESP), roll stability control (RSC), hill-start assist control (HAC), hill descent control (HDC) and safety airbags for drivers and front passengers are all part of the standard configuration for all the vehicles of the model.

Besides, the continuously variable valve duration (CVVD) technology applied to the 10th-generation Sonata, which marks a breakthrough in engine valve control, reasonably controls valve opening duration based on driving conditions like fixed-speed driving and accelerated driving without the need to make a compromise between performance and fuel efficiency. Thanks to the CVVD technology, the engine realizes a 4% improvement in performance, a 5% increase in fuel efficiency and a 12% cut in tail gas emission.

Intelligent Technologies Assist Safe Driving and Riding

Beside enhanced mechanical performance of vehicles, the application of a number of intelligent control technologies also improves the stability, comfort and safety of vehicles. Equipped with the α-Pilot driving assistance system, ARCFOX αT incorporates 23 high-precision sensors, which easily enable automatic following, lane keeping, lane change, autonomous barrier avoidance, traffic sign recognition, parking assistance, pulling out and some other automatic driving assistance functions.

BEIJING-X7 successfully integrates intelligent connectivity, Internet of Vehicles ecology and software ecological platform under the BMFA structure, realizing exceptional infotainment functions and fluency. In terms of safety, augmented reality and 17 intelligent driving control systems of the BMFA structure are all reflected in X7, rendering X7 an L2 autonomous driving ability. BEIJING-EU7 incorporates intelligent driving assistance systems like lane change assist (LCA), lane departure warning system (LDWS), low-speed moving object identification system and blind spot information system (BLIS) to secure driving and riding safety.

The 10th-generation Sonata is equipped with Hyundai SmartSense and 23 active and passive safety items, including NSCC, highway driving assist (HAD), lane following assist (LFA), forward collision-avoidance assist-JT (FCA-JT), rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist (RCCA), safe-exit assist (SEA), blind spot collision-avoidance assist (BCA) and blind-spot view monitor (BVM), to deliver L2+ autonomous driving results.
